Pattern

In the experimental processing of completed artworks, Charlotte Eschenlohr developed a special technique in which she redefines details of her art and processes them digitally. In the fixed format of 50 x 50 cm, almost one hundred artworks were created between 2017 and 2021. She takes excerpts from her previous oeuvre and processes them into new, independent works of art.
The title "Pattern", borrowed from the world of music, refers to harmonically and rhythmically recurring structures that are arrested in this series of paintings. The series is not finished, and will be expanded in a recurring work process at regular intervals.

Cut out

Since 2016 Charlotte Eschenlohr has been working with the technique of paper cutting. An extensive cycle of works under the title "Cut Out" has emerged, in which sheCharlotte Eschenlohr processes motifs from her varied work ,and redefines themd.
From self-made stencils, which were usually created as working material for her painting, positive/negative cuts are made which are then processed in combination with motifs from the extensive reservoir of ideas into independent works of art.
The silhouette, also called silhouette, is the focus of the individual works. Mostly outlines of groups of figures, which get their inspiration from performances of the artist, but also from advertising and fashion. Processed with acrylic paint and spray paint on test prints and work surfaces that arise in the studio.

Explanation Diagram

The multi-layered pictorial structure in the work of Charlotte Eschenlohr is explained in a chronological sequence on the following picture panel. The starting point was the pair of lovers originally carved in marble by Rodin, which under the title "The Kiss" is one of his most important works of art. Combined with a painting by Edvard Munch, also titled "The Kiss", as well as details from Canova's "Cupid and Psyche", a first picture collage was created. This was condensed by adding image sequences from her 2017 "Dangerous Reading" performance in Beijing and a resulting silhouette (cut out).
Elements from "Ocean Flowers" an earlier artwork of the artists flowed into it. A digital collage is created from all nine image layers, which is printed on canvas as the final preliminary stage to the final artwork. In the final layer, the narrative on the picture panel is painterly enriched and completed. The picture is finished. A labor-intensive and unique creative process, which gives the artwork a depth that can hardly be imagined.
